Description
The Killeen Texas Crisis Action Center is a proof of concept built in 2004 in coordination with the Assistant City Manager of Killeen Texas. While no longer used by the city, it stands as an example of how to use a virtual space to manage information in a crisis. It duplicates and magnifies the capabilities of a brick and mortar facility and will be up and running regardless of what happens to the municipality using it.
A VR based crisis center could be deployed for small town along the gulf coast in the path of hurricanes where an evacuation is necessary. It allows representatives at the local state and national level to participate in all phase of operations related to a storm with out everyone traveling to the site. The most important point is that people stay where they are and begin the process of planning and recovery with out the time lost in travel. |
